FAQs

As per the Canadian Organic Trade Association and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, all Organic foods have to go through heavy scrutiny.

They and we rely on the EU Organic Association to certify, monitor and uphold all Organic Standards for our Organic Certified Shrimp.

As all Organic foods, including vegetables, fruits, seafood, beef, pork, etc have to be farmed to meet the strict Organic standards set by the CFIA and the EU Organic standards.

This allows all parties to be held responsible for all aspects of Organic Farming, ie, no antibiotics, no growth hormones, no chemicals, and ensuring the environment is not harmed and the farmers involved are paid an above average price for their products. This also allows a certified chain of custody from farms to us.

We recently visited our Organic Farms with Chef Ned Bell, Executive Chef of OceanWise. They are the leading seafood sustainable organization in Canada.

Our Organic Shrimp are raised in their natural environment, Mangroves (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangrove).

Nourishment is provided entirely from the naturally occurring nutrients within the mangrove system. They are natural nurseries of many aquatic species.

From oysters, to fish to our organic shrimp, the saltwater immersed roots of these shoreline forests are the foundation for a healthy self-sustaining aquatic habitat for all species.

Organic aquaculture farmers manage our mangrove resources and life around water systems very carefully so as to maintain a natural, sustainable system.

There are three important reasons for wanting to eat organically:

1 - Your health
2 - The animal’s health

3 - Environmental Health

Also, any antibiotics and preservatives commonly used in aquaculture have been found to have a negative impact on health for those suffering from chemical sensitivities.

Choosing certified organic significantly reduces your exposure to chemical residues and provides a safe and healthy product for consumers.

Our Organic Shrimp are harvested on a lunar tide cycle. Naturally, tidewater levels rise to a point that allows the water to flow from one mangrove to another seperated by man-made gates.

As the water passes through the gate, a net is attached and the shrimp are ethically captured.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZTwK9i7VSo

EU , certifies and hires third party independent inspectors to inspect our farm.

Organic farmers, processors and traders, must comply with strict EU requirements if they want to use the EU organic logo or label their products as organic. The EU requires an equally strict control system with checks carried out at every stage of the organic chain.

Every operator (farmer, processor, trader, importer or exporter) is checked at least once a year, or more often on the basis of risk assessment. So whenever you buy organic food, you can be confident that it has been produced in accordance with strict environmental and animal welfare rules.

The “Organic” logo is your assurance that products have been raised and handled according to strict procedures and rules, and in compliance with the Organic Products Regulations.

Imported products bearing the Canada and EU Organic logos must also meet the requirements of the Canada Organic Regime.

Organic products often take longer to produce, sometimes need more work, and have to be separated from conventional products. They are processed and distributed on a smaller scale, and are subject to specific controls and certifications.

These extra production costs often have to be passed on to consumers for organic operations to be financially viable.

However, the higher cost may be viewed as a premium for quality, natural, untreated, food produced with environmental protection, animal welfare and social and economic benefits in mind.

No, they’re not. In Canada, the federal government – through the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) and the COA (Canadian Organic Association) – has developed a national standard for Canada.

Along with EU Certification, we work very closely with the CFIA and the COA to ensure all our Organic products meet the strict guidelines set by the government.
